Farewell to Davy Jones

The first half of my day on the 29th was normal, but then I turned on my computer, got onto the internet, and the BBC homepage shattered something inside of me. The world has lost a Monkee, the always-cheerful Davy Jones.

Although over 24 hours have gone by since the news broke, I, as many of you, am still in a state of shock, disbelief, and sadness. I grew up hearing Monkees' songs on the radio, and became a big fan of their TV show some three years ago. As someone who completely missed out on the Monkees' generation, all I can do is watch videos and make believe that I am there. And in truth, a part of my heart has developed the belief that it is still the '60s somewhere. To see a photo of Davy, be it old or recent, and know that he is gone shakes me back into a surreal state of reality.

As heartbreaking as it is to lose someone who we admire, I feel that the words of the three surviving Monkees are valuable... we should remember him with love and happiness. He gave us a great deal of joy in his life.

I had before me the opportunity to see Davy, Micky, and Peter in concert this past summer, but had to pass it up. It makes me dizzy to realize that it was my last chance. Those who were kids when the show was on the air have lived these last several decades, and while his loss is by no means easy for them, they at least have a sense of the passage of time. I have learned the hard way to embrace every chance that I get to see one of my idols perform. Life, simply, is unpredictable. For me, this has been a valuable reminder that I don't know what tomorrow will hold, and I need to live now, in case I cannot later.

Here I am attaching a couple of special little tid-bits for you... like I said, Mike, Peter, and Micky have all shared with their fans loving words for Davy. While I do not have a TV and have not seen Micky's interviews, I have an article and short radio interview that Peter did. I love his salad story... Davy being a true Monkee before the show had even gotten off the ground. Also, take a step back in time to where it all began-- I have never seen all four Monkees' auditions, nor the sketches, but they're priceless.

Please enjoy. As you listen to Davy's music in the coming days, remember to smile through your tears.

Love you forever, Davy baby.

Hot singer on "Alarm für Cobra 11"

A German friend of mine told me about Alarm für Cobra 11, a crime show, the name of which is translated as "Alarm for Cobra 11". I haven't watched any of it, but this one guy, Tom Beck, is a pretty good singer!

The first video amuses me because he's randomly singing to the driver in the car. I'm sure it'd make more sense if I knew what was going on, but by itself it's funny.

The second is a really nice song from his album.

Kripke's got a new show!

Okay, I've never gotten hooked on a TV show on the day that the pilot aired, but here's to hoping that this will be the one. (All of my beloved shows, I've found out about later on.)

Anyway, I'm excited and willing to give this one a shot because it'll be run by Eric Kripke, the creator of Supernatural. I'm very curious to see what he does with his concept.

Misha, soupy as... ever?

What I love about this man is the fact that his outlandishness never ceases to make me laugh. It just doesn't get old.

Unless you're Tom Cruise, being an actor is a rough job

http://kenlevine.blogspot.com/2010/02/guys-are-not-going-to-want-to-fk-her.html

This amazed me. I can certainly imagine that there are far more actors out there than there are roles to hand out. But still! What is with all these committees, and all of these non-creative people making the decisions? And being turned down because the prez wants Mr. Popular instead? It's like effin' high school all over again, man.

What is the best show on The CW?

Oh hey, another online poll about TV shows!

You know what I'm gonna say... don't vote unless you plan to vote for Supernatural. ;)

Don't forget what's in the nail gun!

Warning: This video is not for those with weak hearts. I wasn't looking at the screen through most of it. It was pretty cool, though.

KristyHobbs1: The mentality of a troll

If you're a part of the Supernatural fandom, you may have heard about KristyHobbs1, a self-described Destiel fan who hates Jared Padalecki. She's got a Twitter account, and from what I understand, a Tumblr account as well. Many people are getting defensive, but this article about the trolling mentality and degenerate fans offers a different theory. Before you post about her anywhere, please take the time to read this and pass it on to other Supernatural fans!!!

The Tin Tin movie!

I very vaguely recall watching the cartoon version of Tin Tin on TV, so I think that seeing a movie version would be super cool.

In case you haven't seen a preview:

And in case you don't remember the original:

Unfortunately, I've had a really hard time finding original clips of the TV show on YouTube. Pretty much everything that I've found has been overdubbed with rude dialog. There's so much of it that it's like a fad. I hope it ends soon.

Go see the movie! If you do, feel free to leave me a comment and let me know how you liked it!!

Sam Winchester ringtone!

Hee hee hee... I like.

Although there are are multiple tracks listed here, it's just the same two over and over. The actual ringtone is the short one. I definitely want Sam Winchester telling me to answer my phone... it'd be even better if he was on the other end of the line, too.

Oh, Satan!

I don't really have anything to say about this, though it'll probably cheer you up if you're a Supernatural fan and/or have a sense of humor.

(In case you're not a fan, this footage is from SPN, and the peeling guy is Lucifer's vessel. The human body tends to have a rough time containing angels.)

Here's to some fantastic friends!

Here's another post for my fellow Supernatural fans! It's an adorable and funny fanvid that a friend sent me today. I've watched it twice, and couldn't stop smiling like an idiot. Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles have the best friendship ever, and I feel so lucky to have stumbled upon them and their TV series.

Please note-- while frequently "J2" is used to indicate that a video or fic is slash, I wouldn't call this slashy. It's just friendshippy.

I hope you love it!

For the most part, I try to avoid fanvids set to music, as I generally don't know the songs or hate the way the videos are composed. However, this one has been an exception. Not familiar with the song, but I love the way that it was done.

Matthew Gray Gubler opens a few doors

If you don't know who this guy is, you should check him out. He's got a fun Twitter page (@GUBLERNATION), and plays the fantastic Dr. Reid on Criminal Minds. I just thought that this was cool.

Guy Norman Bee talks about SPN 07x02

I'm pretty sure that I was the last member of the Supernatural fandom to find this, but here is a very cool interview with Guy Bee, who directed "Hello, Cruel World", the second episode of the new season. Let me just say that season seven has been jaw-dropping and incredible so far. Granted, we're only two episodes in, but I've been clawing up the couch in crazy anticipation already. Good stuff.

Apparently there's also some podcast for the first episode as well, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet... I'm actually still listening to the one I've linked here.

If you're a fan and want to hear some cool insight, take a listen! Also, www.supernaturalwiki.com has more resources to poke through. Enjoy!

Hollywood doesn't watch Supernatural

It makes enough sense. How else can you explain such a wildly popular show getting so blatantly ignored by the industry? God, I hate those people. And I'm as thankful as ever that the Supernatural cast and crew are who they are-- people truly dedicated to and in love with their project, so they've been willing to keep going with it despite the lack of mainstream attention. People who pick up on their fans' deep appreciation and always hold that close to them. Anyway, Misha Collins does a good job of exlaining his thoughts here.

Supernatural auction-- ENDS SOON!!

This fan-organized auction was supposed to take place at the Salute to Supernatural convention in Chicago this October, but Creation Entertainment disallowed it. So, it's taking place on this website instead. Here you will find some posters, books, movies, and a CD. Come take a look!

It ends soon, and the prices are pretty good. You do need an account with the site to bid, though.
