Fake olive oil on store shelves

http://www.naturalnews.com/035124_olive_oil_adulterated_canola.html

As someone who tries to spread the word about eating right and reading ingredient labels, I find this highly troubling. There have been many similar cloakings of ingredients in the past, such as the legality of labeling an item "trans fat free" if it contains less than half a gram per serving (which is still bad for you). But... but... companies like Newman's Own and Whole Foods are selling fake olive oil? What the hell is going on in the food industry?? This disturbs me on an entirely new level.

This is a very good time to note that canola oil is not good for you. That's the stuff of a future post, but Natural News probably covers it extensively if you want to see for yourself.

Unless you're Tom Cruise, being an actor is a rough job

http://kenlevine.blogspot.com/2010/02/guys-are-not-going-to-want-to-fk-her.html

This amazed me. I can certainly imagine that there are far more actors out there than there are roles to hand out. But still! What is with all these committees, and all of these non-creative people making the decisions? And being turned down because the prez wants Mr. Popular instead? It's like effin' high school all over again, man.

Spoiled rotten kids who didn't get what they wanted for Christmas

http://www.buzzfeed.com/daves4/people-who-didnt-get-what-they-wanted-for-christm

Alrighty, this is nothing short of disgusting. The parents of these kids might have screwed up royally, but in large part these monsters are a product of our materialistic society. Fantabulous. Am I the only person who DIDN'T want a car or iPhone for Christmas?

Chick-fil-A is homophobic?

http://equalitymatters.org/factcheck/201111010001

Just found out about this. It irritates me to no end that, no matter what product you buy, you're supporting the entire infrastructure and belief system of the company, rather than just the damn product.

Not that I'd ever want to buy that poor excuse of a food substitute.

OnStar spies on you for profit after you unsubscribe

It sort of comes across as one of those overly paranoid things that we've grown frighteningly used to. However, apathy, as they say, can be deadly. There are many ways that you private information can be used, and possibly new ways developed every day. Who says that we even know half of them?

I reccomend reading these in the order posted. (And don't worry, they're not all long.)

9/11 hype

Obviously, this is a few days late, but I think that the ideas presented here are worth thinking about for longer than just that one day.

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/toure-calls-out-media-911-nostalgia-leaves-dylan-ratigan-speechless/

Speaking of "cheapening" a memory, I saw a Facebook page on September 11th, the goal of which was to collect 911,911 likes to honor the victims. If that isn't pathetic, I'm not sure what is.

Office kittens!!!

http://youtu.be/59ZYrB8Ws7Y

I don't know what exactly this is for, but it is one of the single cutest things that I have ever seen. Oh my freaking god. The mouse-mouse! The vending machine! The kittens! The kittens everywhere!!

*Gasps for breath*

Enjoy!

Oh Borders... why am I not surprised?

Typical. Typical. Typical. I really don't have anything else to add. I'm just pissed.

Wen markiting fales

As a linguistics geek, I love mistranslations. If you've never seen engrish.com, you really should check it out.

I've seen a number of these failed marketing stories before, though I'm not sure how true they are. A phrase that I will never forget as long as I live is "Bite the wax tadpole". Inspiring, no?

Dollar stores aren't a bargain?

http://financiallyfit.yahoo.com/finance/article-113117-10316-1-why-youre-overpaying-at-the-dollar-store?ywaad=ad0035&nc

To this I'd like to add a couple of things. First off, doesn't it take a ton of effort to dig up all those coupons to begin with? But hey, that's fine if you're short on money, and who isn't in today's market anyhow. Second, what with everything costing "only" a dollar, it's easy to buy a ton more useless things that you never needed anyway. Those places can be good to avoid. I'm not... the biggest fan. I usually feel as though I'm making myself morally unclean every time I set foot in a dollar store. Heh.

ModCloth is rad, groovy, and swell, man

Aaaaaaahhhhhh. I find some aspects of fashion interesting enough, but I'm by no means a fashionista. I used to be hooked on What Not To Wear until I got tired of it. BUT, if there is one thing that I love, it is vintage clothing. I love looking at photos from the 50s or 60s and drooling over girls in floral print dresses or guys fresh off of Carnaby Street.

And what's better? Being able to buy that kind of clothing today, because it's in style again! It's not cheap, but online store ModCloth.com has pretty much everything you could want.

So, let me get you started with a dress that I cannot get over. Even if this stuff is out of your price range, treat yourself to some delicious optical goodness.

Bonding on a road trip

I'm not a fan of any zero-calorie soda (can you say "artificial sweetener"?), but I love this Pepsi Max video. I freaking love Richard Speight Jr! He plays the truck driver. Or, well, the actual truck driver. (Aaaaand he played the Trickster on Supernatural. Just thought I'd put one in for my show, haha.)

Enjoy!

The magic of childhood/Disney

I do have my suspicions of the Disney company, but I was a '90s kid, and I was raised on the classic Disney movies. I never had the soundtracks on CD, but have, since middle school, wanted to get in touch with my childhood. Maaaan, it's crazy what you can learn about yourself when you rewatch a favorite childhood film that you hadn't seen in years. Suddenly, you remember why you always thought that hair was naturally that flowy, or why fat, purple worms sounded appetizing.

I love this commerical. Gah, so '90s. The woman says she'll leave her pager on!! Love it. Enjoy.

Come on Barbie, let's go party

Bahahahahaaaaaa. I hope you know what song that line is from. Anyway, here is a hilarious music video of said song.

http://youtu.be/ZyhrYis509A

I love this song because it captures the joys of owning a Barbie doll, obviously. And I think that the decor in the video enhances the theme perfectly. Now, what if somebody wrote a sequel to this song, featuring Barbie's new boyfriend, What's-his-name? (Shane? Blaine?) Lawlz. (Aaaaand here's some starter material to use for lyrics! http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/feb2004/nf20040217_1253_db042.htm)

Facebook, safety, and privacy...which isn't like the rest?

I'm pretty sure, as many of us are, that our complaints and requests for this necessary evil in our lives go completely ignored by the company. But honestly, if enough of us protest, can't we at least get them massively bad press until they finally give in?

This is an open letter to Facebook from a website called Naked Security.

Organik, the dog shampoo!

This was an advertisement made by business students at Southern Oregon University for a marketing project. (For those of you interested, BA330 is apparently a great course.)

I think it's cute. And as the YouTube poster said in the description box, please don't flag it... that is, in fact, the proper use of the word bitch. A female dog, people.

Not a Supernatural ad...

...although I believe I found this on some SPN website.

Great ad. I challenge you to figure it out before the end is revealed!

Please leave a post with what you thought it was about!

The customer is frequently dumb

I've never worked in retail, but I've got a few good friends who have, and the general consensus is that you get to test your self-control often by not punching an idiotic or rude customer.

This is an amusing comic strip that highlights The Good Life of retail.

Take it as a job description. Hahaha.
